What is the Selection Wizard?

The Selection Wizard component is what makes SASSI a unique and useful operating tool in the field of aromatherapy.

It is a wizard that has been built around a database that houses specific information about essential oils. The information outlines the therapeutic benefits and contraindications of fifty one selected essential oils. The analysis function takes that static data and turns it into a usable report for the user. It also has a costing function where a user is able to select the essential oils in their collection and the wizard takes that information and provides a cost of the blend that has been created.

How does it work? It looks at contraindications and therapeutic benefits and then outputs the best essential oils to use for a specific client on a specific day. The output of the wizard is a report. It displays the output for the client based on their selections in the wizard. The report can be printed. If costing information has been updated by the user, the wizard can calculate the cost of the essential oil blend you create.

Why use this analysis?

This analysis tool is unique as it allows the user to select essential oils for any aliment or purpose quickly and without reference to a number of resources to ensure that the oil is safe for use based on contraindications. The create your own blend function allows the user complete freedom to create safe, useful and unique blends while taking personal olfactory preferences into consideration. Unlike conventional recipe suggestions, the create your own blend facility can be utilised and implemented quickly and is limited only by the number of oils available for use and your own creativity.

Personal Details

This is the first page of the selection wizard. There are seven questions to be answered. All questions are optional.

1. Name. This name will appear at the top of the report.

2. Date of birth. Enter the date of birth of the person being analysed.

3. Select the carrier oil that will be used. Only answer this question if a massage blend is being created. This section is used to tell the wizard which carrier oil will be used in the blend. If a carrier oil is selected in this part of the wizard, and the update carrier oil section has been completed, the wizard will calculate the cost of the essential oil blend you create.

4. Select how many mls of massage oil will be used in the massage oil blend. Only answer this question if a massage blend is being created. Select the number of mls that will be made using the selected carrier oil. The wizard will calculate the number of drops to use in a blend based on a ratio of 1 drop top note, 3 drops middle note and 1 drop base note.

5. Calculation of a numerology number is optional. The persons numerology number will be calculated and will appear below the name on the report.

6. Only use oils on hand allows you to view only oils in your collection. There is an update essential oil section where you can tell the program which essential oils you have in your collection. This list is maintained and updated by the user.

7. Costings on the report. If the update essential oil and update carrier oil section have been updated with costings for oils, then the program will calculate the cost of the created blend.

Contraindication Selector

The contraindication selector asks the client to select any contraindications they have. There are certain conditions such as being pregnant that preclude the use of certain essential oils. The wizard takes these into account and only recommends essential oils that are suitable for the client being treated. Thus ensuring the health and safety of clients.

For example, if someone is pregnant they should not use rosemary. If pregnancy is selected as a contraindication, then the wizard will not recommend this oil.

Therapeutic Benefits Selector

The therapeutic benefits selector asks the client to state any ailments they may want to treat and any properties they want the oils to contain. The wizard recommends essential oils that are suitable for treating these conditions. The recommendations have been researched thoroughly by collating information from over thirty reference books published to date. This data is the culmination of over 200 years of research material in the field of aromatherapy.

For example, if someone wanted to treat a headache, the wizard would suggest lavender or peppermint as long as these essential oils were not contraindicated.

In the therapeutic benefits selector, each ailment is categorised according to which body system it belongs to and essential oil properties can be found under properties.

Data in the therapeutic benefits section has been divided into groupings of ailments grouped by body system, general, overall feeling, properties, skin type and tonic and each ailment has been categorised accordingly.

Ailments grouped by body system: To have an ailment is to be affected with pain or trouble, or to be unwell. All ailments in the software are in body system categories such as digestive or reproductive.

General: This category contains data that does not clearly fit into any other category such as jetlag.

Overall feeling: This category is to classify the overall feeling that an oil will produce such as rejuvenation or relaxation.

Properties: A property is a distinctive attribute or quality of something such as anti bacterial.

Skin type: This category is used to classify skin types such as dry or oily skin.

Create Your Own Blend

The create your own blend section is made up of three pages - a base note selector, a middle note selector and a top note selector. Create your own blend uses information from the contraindication selector and the therapeutic benefits selector to provide a list of useable essential oils.

Any essential oil that cannot be used because it is contraindicated for the client will not appear in this section.

Essential oils in black are essential oils that can be used.

Essential oils in green are recommended to use based on the selected therapeutic benefits. The number indicates how many selected therapeutic benefits the oil relates to, and all information relating to the selected oil appears on the right hand side of the screen.

Selection Wizard Report

The report is the final output of the selection wizard component. The report can be printed or viewed on screen.

The first section displays the name of the client and their numerology number if it was selected.

The second section displays all the essential oils that can not be used because of stated contraindications.

The third section lists the selected therapeutic benefits, and recommended essential oils, their note, the specific therapeutic benefits that the client selected and any warnings associated with that oil.

The fourth section prints the results of the create your own blend section. If costing information was input, it will also provide a cost for blend or massage blend. Where no costing information was supplied, $0.00 will appear in the cost column. Where no essential oils for a note are available, the field is left blank.
